Honored as the #1 Large-Ship Cruise Line For Families by the readers of Travel + Leisure and among the top large cruise ships in the world by Condé Nast Traveler readers, you just can’t make a better decision to sail on Disney Cruise Line for a family-oriented vacation at sea. While there are five ships in Disney Cruise Line’s repertoire, for luxury, I suggest choosing from the three newest ships, Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy, and Disney Wish, all of which offer the very best Disney Cruise Line has to offer.
Parents seeking time alone while still enjoying a quality family vacation will go crazy for this cruise line, where there are many shared family experiences as well as adult-exclusive activities. And children will adore the supervised Youth Clubs providing a fantastic array of interactive programs where kids have fun every day of their vacation. Where else can you find Disney characters at every turn and entertainment Disney-style galore around every corner while enjoying a vacation at sea?
While mostly geared toward adults traveling with children, Disney ships offer many adults-only experiences for those 18 and older (note the drinking age onboard is 21) including their very own beach area at Disney Castaway Cay (Disney’s 1,000-acre private Bahamian island) and now the adults-only beach at Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, adults-only restaurants, exciting nightclubs, adults-exclusive pool, and a relaxing spa. There are also singles socials and tours of the ship. And I haven’t yet mentioned a casino, have I? If so, then I was sorely mistaken; you’ll find nothing of the sort onboard a Disney cruise ship. I must say that adults without children would probably be better off finding a different kind of cruise, unless that is, you really love all things Disney in which case this cruise line would be a perfect fit. Regardless, do come prepared to vacation with hordes of little ones; it just can’t be avoided, although Disney does such a great job in keeping children happy that you won’t see too many misbehaved children onboard.
Combining a Walt Disney World® Resort land package with a Disney cruise gives you the best of both worlds. Departing from nearby Port Canaveral are three- and four-night cruises to the Bahamas on the Disney Wish as well as seven-night cruises to both the western and eastern Caribbean on the Disney Fantasy, a perfect way to extend your Walt Disney World Resort vacation. Out of Fort Lauderdale, the Disney Dream and Disney Magic sails three- and four-night cruises to the Bahamas.
For something more exotic, think about sailing the Disney Dream or the Disney Fantasy (beginning in 2025) to a European destination. It’s the best of both worlds
